What to see in Koh Kong, Cambodia

What to see in Koh Kong
The provincial capital of Koh Kong is the arrival point for many foreign travellers en route to Cambodia due to the international border crossing with Thailand which lies a short distance from the town. A pretty dusty old affair, Krong Koh Kong (the city of Koh Kong, but usually just called Koh Kong) sits on the western bank of the Kah Bpow River -- a wide flowing river which is spanned by a spic-and-span Thai-financed bridge. Koh Kong is a sleepy riverside town and there's not much in the way of tourist attractions within the town itself. However, it's a handy base for boat trips, waterfall and beach excursions. The town has also become a hub for eco-tourism trips and jungle trekking. For a town of its size, it has a disproportionate number of western-managed bars which are primarily aimed at Thailand- based expats on visa runs. One Koh Kong city regular describes the local expat scene as "rather Monty-Pythonesque", but regardless of your opinion, there's certainly not a shortage of places for a refreshing drink and expats to talk to.

What To See in Sihanoukville

 Independence Beach
Independence Beach, Sihanoukville gets its name from the deserted hulk of the 7 -storey Independence Hotel at the north end. Locals call this beach 'otel bram-pil chann (hotel 7-stories). It is labeled '7-Chann Beach' on the in-town street sign. Independence is more than a kilometer long, but the sandy area is much narrower making the beach best when the tide is low. The beach is wider and more tourists toward the northwest end near a small fresh water lake (which is the source of the town's fresh water and is rumored to contain crocodiles). At the other end is the beach's only hotel, Sea Breeze. Grass umbrellas and drink vendors only hotel, Sea Breeze. Grass umbrellas and drink vendors now line the beach from end to end but it is still much less frequented than other beaches. The road up to the old Independence Hotel is often frequented by a small troop of Rhesus monkeys but is currently closed while the hotel is undergoing renovation.

Preah Sihanouk Province -Cambodia

Preah Sihanouk Province is a seaside resort located on the coast between Thailand and Vietnam at the Southwesterly end of Cambodia; an ideal destination for that dream holiday. Meant to be a port city in the late 1950s, the town has evolved; it is newer, more urban and cosmopolitan than most other Cambodian provincial cities. This is now more a beach town catering to beach-going holiday makers from Phnom Penh as well as the increasing number of foreign tourists although it is still the port town it has always been.

Although the pace in the province is very relaxed, there is a lot for sight-seeing and other interesting activities in this province besides the attractions of the islands and the beaches and because the town is bordered on three sides by tropical beaches, fresh seafood especially crabs, squids, prawns and ocean fish, has always been one of the town's biggest draws. All about town and along the beaches, there is also a wide selection of foreign cuisines including Japanese, Australian, Korean, Chinese, French, Indian, German, Sri Lankan, British, and Italian. There are also pizzeria, bakeries and a few nice coffee shops in town.
