You arrive Kban Spean by going past Banteay Srei and proceeding on the road up to the parking area, where the path to the site begins. After about a 20-minute walk up hill you come to one of the tributaries of the Siem Reap River and, going down to its banks, you will spot the first sculptures on the surrounding rocks, as well as on the bed of the torrent.
The area was inhabited by ancient hermits, who cut divine images and symbols everywhere in the rock during the reign of Udyaditiavarman II. Among the most fascinating sculptures is a large panel with Vishnu reclining on the serpent Ananta: emerging from the god’s navel is a lotus flower on which is seated Brahma, the four-face lord of the origin of the world.
